1 Timothy 2:5-15
New American Standard Bible
5 For there is (A)one God, and (B)one mediator also between God and mankind, the (C)man Christ Jesus, 6 who (D)gave Himself as a ransom for all, the (E)testimony [a]given at [b](F)the proper time. 7 (G)For this I was appointed as a [c]preacher and (H)an apostle ((I)I am telling the truth, I am not lying), as a teacher of (J)the Gentiles in faith and truth.
Instructions for Believers
8 Therefore (K)I want the men (L)in every place to pray, (M)lifting up (N)holy hands, without anger and dispute. 9 Likewise, I want (O)women to adorn themselves with proper clothing, [d]modestly and discreetly, not with braided hair and gold or pearls or expensive apparel, 10 but rather by means of good works, as is proper for women making a claim to godliness. 11 (P)A woman must quietly receive instruction with entire submissiveness. 12 (Q)But I do not allow a woman to teach or to exercise authority over a man, but to remain quiet. 13 (R)For it was Adam who was first [e]created, and then Eve. 14 And it was not Adam who was deceived, but (S)the woman was [f]deceived and [g]became a wrongdoer. 15 But [h]women will be [i]preserved through [j]childbirth—if they continue in (T)faith, love, and sanctity, with moderation.
